Washington Park Early Learning Center (WPELC) is a nonprofit organization directed by families, otherwise known as a parent cooperative. Through our collective efforts we keep costs down, build community, and help operate the school. As part of the cooperative experience, all families must actively participate at WPELC by serving as a member of a standing committee or as a board member.
We want to know your family preferences so that we can find the volunteer opportunity that works best for you and your family as well as the school.
There are three sections that require your input:
You will be asked questions about the skills, interests and professional experience for the two primary guardians in your household. The information you share will help determine what role you will play during the year.
You select three different jobs you prefer most for the upcoming school year. We will do our best to place your family in a job/committee that you prefer. However, this is not guaranteed as we cannot always accommodate everyone's choices. It is helpful to read the Board Officers Committee Chairs Responsibilities for additional information before you fill this part out.
WPELC is governed by a Board of Directors. You will be asked to nominate members from our community to fill 13 available board positions. You will find contact information for current board members on the Board Officers and Committee Chairs Responsibilities summary. Please reach out to them with questions. The board is selected by the Nominating Committee in the spring.
If you are at all interested in serving on the Board, please consider nominating yourself for a Board position. The Nominating Committee will contact you to further discuss.
Thank you for taking the time to fill this information out thoughtfully. We value your input.
Washington Park Early Learning Center is governed by 13 elected board members. The Board of Directors help manage and conduct school business. The board meets on the second Tuesday of every month from 7:00-9:00pm. All positions serve a one-year term beginning June 15th with the exception of the Treasurer, which is a two-year term.
We recognize that you may be unsure about nominating yourself or someone else to serve on the Board of Directors, however we urge all parents to consider a position on the Board. This is a great way to be involved in the decision making process. We request that you nominate at least one person for each board position and you can nominate more than one person for each position. Please nominate yourself if you are at all interested in joining the board and the Nominating Committee will contact you to discuss the role.
If you are not interested in serving on the Board for the 2021-2022 school year, please consider serving on the Board Nominating Committee. This committee meets throughout the month of April to help recruit prospective Board members. It is a great way to learn more about the Board and get to know other families.
Thank you for your input into the WPELC leadership for the upcoming school year. It is through the collective efforts of families that our school has thrived for over 45 years.
