Washington Park Early Learning Center is a nonprofit organization directed by families, otherwise known as a parent cooperative. WPELC is governed by a Board of Directors. Thirteen elected board members help manage and conduct school business. The Board of Directors is comprised of parent volunteers with students currently enrolled at the school. Board members serve as Officers, Committee Chairs or Class Representatives. All positions serve a one-year term beginning June 15 th with the exception of the Treasurer, which is a two-year term. The Board meets on the second Tuesday of every month from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
As a parent cooperative, the Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the operations of the school. The Director is responsible for overseeing the staff. The Board of Directors and Director work closely together to ensure that WPELC thrives.
The Director, Lead Teachers, Assistant Teachers and Office Manager are all paid employees. Volunteer Staff are permanent volunteers who are not parents of children enrolled in WPELC. This is an unpaid position.
